Сервер — это устройство, выполняющее различные задачи как удаленно (чаще всего), так и локально. По сути, это тот же компьютер, только более мощный. Состоящий, как и компьютер из: процессора, материнской платы, оперативной памяти и жесткого диска, причем чаще всего в больших серверах используется специальное для них оборудование. Сегодня они выпускают различные типы серверов:

стойки (Rack), которые монтируются в стойку или серверный шкаф

Напольные серверы (Tower) — этот тип серверов встроен в системный блок

Блейд-серверы — это компьютерные серверы с компонентами, вынесенными и сведенными в корзину (Шасси) для уменьшения занимаемого места

Управление осуществляется удаленно, благодаря заранее установленной на сервер операционной системе. Обычно это операционные системы Linux или Windows, но стоит отметить, что это специальные версии, предназначенные для управления сервером.
